Design of axis drives
The dimensioning of electric drives for machine tools has a crucial importance for the function and the cost of a drive package. So a useful power reserve is required, the same time oversizing should be avoided.
Requirements for a drive
Drive units of machine tools have to meet high requirements because they significantly affect the processing quality and productivity of your machine, for example:
high rapid traverse
high feed forces
high rigidity of the entire system
high short time overload (acceleration)
zero backlash
jerkfree over the entire speed range
high positioning accuracy
high dynamics
a small size and weight
good efficiency
maintenance-free and reliable
low cost
A central task in the design of a drive, it is following components and parameters
Sizing and determination of the servo motor
Definition of the translations of the transmission components
Diameter and pitch of the threaded spindle or diameter of the pinion (with rack and pinion drives)
set so, that the requirements are optimally fulfilled to the drive.
With modern controls, it is easily possible to operate several individual drives as one preloaded drive. This allows high acceleration and high thrust forces are achieved.
